Production Planner/Scheduler (Santa Rosa) (posted 06/17/14)


Position Overview:

 

Production Planner/Scheduler is a diverse position covering the planning, scheduling, releasing, and tracking of workflow from the engineering department and through the manufacturing department. This position receives drawing packages and requisitions from engineering personnel, adds planning data, enters the packages into the company ERP system, copies, assembles, distributes, and further prepares drawing packets for manufacture. This position will be the focal point in creating a production scheduling system for the company. The Production Planner creates, tracks, and reports on the current production status of released components. This position functions as a liaison between Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Shipping/Receiving departments. It is a focal point among all departments to effectively communicate and help meet project requirements.

 

Job Duties:

Planning

  1. Function as the focal point in creating a production schedule using the best combination company's SyteLine ERP application The production schedule's purpose is to provide a means to track and manage daily manufacturing workload, provide feedback to engineering on in-house vs. subcontracted manufacturing hours, and provide regular reporting on manufacturing status. The production schedule will provide an in-depth audit on production requirements, manufacturing capacity, schedule, and workforce size.
  2. Monitors, analyzes, and reports performance to schedule of production activities utilizing information derived from material and production control systems.
  3. Coordinate with project managers and production to sequence manufacturing, assembly, and installation.
  4. Assist the manufacturing department to actively manage the production schedule.
  5. Research and assign manufacturing times and due dates on parts as needed and document during the releasing process.
  6. Coordinate with departments and project managers as needed to identify and resolve issues regarding budget and delivery.
  7. Monitor quality, service, and delivery issues, and take corrective actions as needed.
  8. Identify and resolve supplier and internal errors that result in budget or schedule discrepancies.
  9. Provide continual improvement of the planning and reporting processes.
  10. Participate in project milestone meetings.

Releasing

  1. Analyze project information and requests received from engineering personnel via an engineering-change-notice, then effectively communicate the requirements to purchasing and manufacturing personnel.
  2. Accurately maintain parts database in ERP system
  3. Correctly assess whether required parts can be issued from Finished Goods Inventory, should be manufactured in-house, or sub-contracted to outside vendors. For parts sub-contracted to outside vendors, estimate the amount of in-house manufacturing hours and costs to be converted to vendor dollars.
  4. Accurately develop and maintain complex bills-of-material, and work order bills-of-material (as-builts).
  5. Research order and delivery discrepancies and resolve MRP related issues. Take appropriate corrective actions to prevent similar issues.
  6. Routine clerical duties to support department activities and equipment. May include supervision of others performing these duties.
  7. Stay informed of current projects, manufacturing workload, and manufacturing processes.
  8. Function as the focal point to move towards a more efficient system of entering engineering releases.

QUALIFICATIONS

A four year degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a technical field along with 5+ years experience in planning/scheduling. 10+ years of related experience and proven performance in a manufacturing environment may be acceptable in lieu of a degree.

Self-motivated, energetic, dependable, honest, and thorough. A versatile, self-starter with a positive attitude, who is judiciously assertive.

Ability to modulate with a dynamic workload: From heavy multi-tasking during peak workloads - to very focused, detail-oriented work during critical projects Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills are required.

The Production Planner/Scheduler will be responsible for maintaining material and inventory plans and developing manufacturing schedules and priorities based on associated requirements.


Overall Responsibilites:

  • Manage and update material and inventory plans based on current inventory levels and manufacturing requirements
  • Prioritize inventory shipments and builds based on geographical demand and capacity constraints
  • Provide routine communication to manufacturing supervisors on build requirements and prioritization throughout a diversified manufacturing environment
  • Manage life cycle of work orders based on build documentation revision and/or engineering build activities

Qualifications

  • BS degree in operations management, business administration, or finance or equivalent work experience
  • Strong experience utilizing ERP system(s) for material and manufacturing planning
  • 5+ years experience production/operations planning
  • 2+ years experience in the medical device industry
  • APICS member, APICS certification a plus
  • Aptitude leading cross functional teams
  • Ability to develop and implement business processes
  • High level of database and ERP System experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to motivate both junior and senior personnel
